Re: Rules in 2011
What would be the reason for changing the point values?
My next question would be, what would 2010's results have looked like if this scoring scheme was used?

Re: Rules in 2011
the reason is quite simple : formula one change the point system : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One#Points_system
Re: Rules in 2011
Yes, that's it.
In order to have universally known bases for Formula Boinc, we choosed in 2007 the same system of points as the Automotive F1 for Grand Prix ranking.
Now it has changed this year so it should be a good reason to follow it.
After discussion with Sebastien, he will prepare a simulation of 2010 points if this new system was already in use.
So we can compare.
I guess First places are not changed, but maybe after Rank 3 it may change things.
Let's wait for his new script.

Re: Rules in 2011
Sebastien finished already.
Many thanks for his efficient work.
So here is the comparison of 2010 ranking with the 2 systems of points.
No change before Place 17.
It seems interesting to follow the Automotive F1 ranking because it keeps FB points system close to an already official system.
As it is really quite no change, we could ask to all crunchers interested in Formula Boinc to choose if the system is to be changed in 2011 ?
A worldwide ballot !

Re: Rules in 2011
Thanks for the replies.
Not sure if a vote is really needed. Seems like a no brainer now. It follows standard F1 scoring and doesn't have a significant known bias nor causes a dramatic shift in the final ranks as far as we can tell.
Plus it awards points to more positions and breaks some ties.

Re: Rules in 2011
Crunching a new project to the "limit" should be called qualifying (as in Formula 1)
The team that has crunched the most when a project hits the limit required for a project being accepted should be given 1 point for qyalifying in "pole position".
If I understand right this is already how it goes ?
When a project hits the limit, all credits crunched before that (during the year) are also counted ?
I really think this change would make teams to crunch new projects and this is what Boinc is about, helping beneficial projects !
I would like some comments or questions about this, can it be made or does the coding take to much time ?

> Mankka*
I agree with the term "qualifying" meaning that a project meets the necessary requirements to appear in FB.
So I will use it, and that could be naturally integrated in texts.
Regarding the Bonus point for "pole position", why not ?
1 or more points, but that will be discussed during 2011, not validated for 2011 (too late to launch now).

Yes all points are counted, including those that permitted the "qualification" (but still in the calendar year limit). When a project hits the limit, all credits crunched before that (during the year) are also counted ?
