The few of us that did switch the FB Sprint project didn't have much of a chance at getting Top 10. So even less people participated to the point the event wasn't even mentioned at the home forum.
We moved down to league 2 and started to get some FB points and then there was more excitement for Sprints.
You make a good point, as I've seen the same issue on my team.
If you clearly cannot compete against teams with many "power users" and do not have a chance to earn any FB points, so what is the point of taking part (esp in the Sprints) if you don't have a realistic opportunity to compete.
As team founder, I've tried to motivate members of my team, but it is very hard to generate interest, and of course with electricity prices (in the UK) going up dramatically (due in part to the UK Govt failing to properly "manage" the energy market, leading to nearly 30 energy suppliers going bust in the last 9 months), so crunching BOINC tasks now is quite an expensive hobby.
And if "rewards" are limited, then there is less reason to crunch !
One other thing - there does seem to be fewer "high quality" science based projects that are still active. Quite a few have shut down over the years, or had server/hardware/funding/staffing issues which has limited tasks. And the projects that remain are offering very limited BOINC credits, which further reduces member involvement...
