Since round about an hour the http-Errors are gone and we could Upload/Download WUs and Results

But still the server doesn't hand out as much work as my clients request. My RTX 5080 is still without any Asteroids-WU

So, maybe you should raise a PM on the Asteroids Message Board and they can check it out?
That was impossible. As I said earlier, I was unable to connect to the project, either by BOINC or by web browser. So it was impossible to PM anyone there.

it looks like the site is accessible now. But with many (most?) of us unable to get work for the past day, I feel this sprint should be cancelled.

on my side the Server works around 18:30 normal. I wasn't earlier at home so the time is not exact.

The question will be what was the problem before this time.

I lost ~20 hours crunchtime since race start because of this "server" problems.

Some other guys seems to be without problems. The actual L1 User Stat shows this discrepance.

I don't think it's a good idea to stop this Sprint but every year Asteroids makes problems at race Start.

So discussion of the actual problems could also help the Asteroids Admins to optimize there System.

Especially when it was a Server overload. At Race Start i found some entrys in my User WU Database of Dezember 2024.
Such things will blow up load for nothing.

So, what caused the problems this time?

csbyseti,

6 CPU's with GPU, 12 Asteroid Boinc instances running (i don't think that this should trigger a attack protection).

Hi all

Can I suggest that anyone who has access to the Asteroids channel on Discord, go there...

Here are some quotes from today:
Pavel wrote:16:07pm - As you might be aware, @timbo_boinc organized another challenge, and it didn’t go well. Many users are being banned despite doing nothing wrong.
Pavel wrote:16:35pm - We solely rely on you to deal with server issues. It's understandable if you're busy, so if possible, please consider expanding the admin team to someone who can help you. At the moment, the project feels unmaintained, constantly facing issues, with no one showing much concern...
FoxKyong wrote:17:27pm - I am very sorry, I haven't checked messages here for a while. And I wasn't aware of the challenge. I will stop fail2ban in a moment. I am going to set up some protection on firewall. Also I prepared the second server last week.
Pavel wrote:17:31pm - great, I can access the server again 🙂
FoxKyong wrote:17:31pm - Done, you can try use heavy load on server to test if it works. I'll test that new firewall settings tomorrow at my home firewall.

Hi

Of course I understand if you have no access, you cannot post a message ;) But once it was available to you (assuming this is just a transient issue and will go away) then you could contact them at that point. Not trying to be flippant with you, just trying to assist !

See my post above on this thread about the reports on the Asteroids channel on Discord :-)

Hey, as Timbo said, the server is up and running, but it's been temporarily banning some users, mainly those with a large number of hosts. This restriction was put in place following past DDoS issues that made the server inaccessible to everyone, but the limits were set too low.
The admin finally got our message and adjusted the server settings, so it should be good now.

Regarding the second issue, the RTX 5080 (Blackwell architecture) isn't supported yet. Support is planned for the upcoming version, but that version hasn't been officially released yet.

So we're just going to count this sprint, even though many could not participate for a third of the duration? This is clearly not fair, and is not the decision I would make.

This thread is sounding just like a race director's telephone line.

If you hit the throttle too hard you get wheel spin and oversteer which puts you back a few places, is that the driver's fault or the race track?

FB is mimicking F1 well. I bet fail2ban has never been called a "wet track" before.
