Re: Sprints for 2024

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all

We are now one quarter (25%) of the way through the Sprints and we now have some stats that make for interesting reading.

I'll compile some "observations" in terms of which teams are doing well in each of the 3 Team and Member Leagues, (and hence which Teams/Members may be promoted into a higher league)

Plus there are some Teams/Members that should take notice and "buck up their ideas", to avoid the chance of being relegated to a lower league !!

Watch this space !!

Hi all

Member stats are interesting, to see which of the 2023 (and previous years) members are actually continuing to support the FB Sprints and in League 3, the number of NEW members who are doing rather well.

Column 2: The Average Credits earned per Sprint by each Member in each League

Please note that some members are not participating in some Projects and some members have joined since the Sprints started and hence their averages are LOWER as they have taken part in fewer Sprints.

Re: Sprints for 2024

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all

Now that we have passed the 25% stage of the Sprints, as a TEST, I've made the following changes to the Members Leagues, as I want to see what effect this has on the Marathon FB points awards, so I can see if their FB points are re-calculated due to their new League placement.

1) Relegated from League 1 to League 3
eiernacken1983
Ereignishorizont

2) Relegated from League 2 to League 3
boehser-wolf
planetclown
SmookinJoe

These members have all contributed very few or even zero credits over the last 6 Sprints, although they may have contributed significantly in some cases on Marathon projects. So, the FB Sprint points will not be affected at all, (as none of these members have scored any Sprint points).

But as they have earned some FB Marathon points, so I want to see how Sebastiens coding for the promotion/demotion of Members will be affected.

And when the more major promotion/demotion process takes place in the near future, I can guess-estimate what impact this might have :o

And if it all goes pear-shaped, I can switch them back easily.

Tim

I think it would have been more important to realize that some Ukraine team sprint participants are not able to access Russian SiDock servers because they are located in Russia

The argument works both ways. Allowing Russian politicians to control Ukraine and Sidock and Formula Boinc and the Formula Boinc members appears to give them the upper hand.

Hi

Perhaps...but then I would point out to you that:
a) maybe not all of the "Ukraine" team members are actually IN Ukraine
b) for the previous 6 Project Sprints of 2024, none are based in Russia, and team Ukraine has finished either in 8th or 9th place.

In my personal opinion, I would love Ukraine to finish in the Top 3 every time we have a Sprint and I'd love to see more FB members switching teams temporarily, just for each Sprint. Slava Ukraini !!

For the reasons mentioned above, the SiDock project was voted out at the Pentathlon that ended today and replaced by Milkyway. It doesn't seem to have been that problem-free after all, even if you don't notice it in your formula bubble

Hi

The stats for the last 40 days seem to indicate that there have NOT been any issues with SiDock task availability during this time.

https://www.boincstats.com/stats/192/pr ... l/lastDays

All I can say is that for my hosts (and seemingly for most others due to a lack of complaints), there were NO issues with downloading any tasks.

And from 4th May-17th May, daily credits earned was round the 7 million mark each day, and it then showed a useful increase from 18th-20th, which I would imply was due to the work done during the Sprint (and some of which was credited AFTER the Sprint ended).

Yes, the tasks were longer but that still doesn't mean that FB should ONLY concentrate on projects with short duration work units, though of course it would benefit those members who have multiple host machines. As long as the task duration is less than (say) 1½-2 days, then everyone should get some credit.

We all have a choice in terms of how many hosts we want to dedicate to BOINC. And even then, those with more hosts will ALWAYS earn more credits than members who only have one or two...and from a team perspective, EVERY FB team needs to publicise each Sprint so that more members will take part and more members = more hosts = more team credits !

Hello!
Please help me in solving a problem.
My team Keep The Fire Alive! can't participate in the ongoing SPRINT challenge at Ramanujan Machine project.
Can you manually add my team to the list of participants?

https://rnma.xyz/boinc/team_display.php?teamid=1371

Thanks in advance!

Hi

I'm sorry but I cannot add you manually as I cannot edit the back-office coding that Sebastien created.

However your team is already registered in Teams League 2, so in theory, as soon as your team members start to earn some Ramanujan credits, and they are included in the project XML stats, that are exported to websites, then the back-office stats should start to show these on this webpage:

https://formula-boinc.org/sprints.py?st ... printid=10

In the meantime, I'll ask Sebastien if he can look into this as it *might* be a configuration issue that he can fix !

I also checked the Ramanujan website and I do not think there are any settings for you (or any other members) to "tick" to ensure each team member stats can be exported (as some projects need each member to allow this account preference).
