New rules proposal

Post by sebastien »

We are discussing new rules for 2010.

Rules for the classification of the projects and how they will appear in Formula BOINC.
1. Adding projects at fixed date : January 1st, April 1st, July 1st and October 1st

2. Permanent-testing projects and projects without real application (UpperCase) are excluded.

3. An information message is sent to Alpha projects administrators as soon as project is added to FormulaBoinc. Nevertheless, Aministrators of Alpha projects have ability to cancel at anytime participation to FormulaBoinc.

4. Addition of a new project will be subject to having already distributed at least 1,000,000 credits since the creation of the project,

5. Addition of a new project will be subject to enabling account creation during precedent 30 days

6. Indication of the status of any project " Either by Blacklist or Boycott of team AF ", which means that the AF team does not wish to crunch on this project, decided upon by any possible existence of non-ethical facts (based on the point of view of AF). Nevertheless, before any Team-group decision is taken to remove them, points of these projects will be counted and validated in FB. Also, there shall be a link created towards our listed evidences of the Blacklisted-Boycotted project(s) (with at least a part of the text translated into English).
Rules for the validation of points and classifications for FB ending on December-31st at midnight (UTC).
1. All points listed on the website are a close estimate for that time period. The "Official" final standings will only be announced after a definitive validation is done on 12/31 midnight,
2. To receive any points for a project, the project must have awarded at least 5,000,000 3,000,000 credits in the year or since it integration if project is added during the year. Even if to some it appears in the course of the year it had, if it is not the case, then no Team will receive any points for the project.
3. In the case of a tie, the first 3 Teams will be decided upon by the number of projects for which they had received FB points. Then if still tie on this number, we shall count the number of 1 st places, and if tie again, then, count the number of 2 nd places, and so on....
Sat Dec 12, 2009 Update:

To receive any points for a project, the project must have awarded at least 3,000,000 credits in the year
Wed Dec 23, 2009 Update:

If you go on excluding testing projects from the list, it will be only consistent to exclude any UpperCASE-crunching as well.

If some project without any real work like Goldbach is included, projects that really do some proper crunching like RALPH, CPDN-Beta, Seti-Beta and such should be included as well, but if you exclude a project like RALPH, such stuff as Goldbach should be down the ditch even faster.

I modified my first post :

Permanent-testing projects and projects without real application (UpperCase) are excluded.
To receive any points for a project, the project must have awarded at least 5,000,000 3,000,000 credits in the year.

To be more precise, it should be said that Permanent Testing or Uppercase Testing Projects may be integrated in the course of the year in FB when they have distributed more than 1,000,000 credits of NON-Test Work Units.
All Test Work Units credits formerly attributed are in that case not existing regarding Formula Boinc Trophy.
The project is really considered as beginning at that time, as any other project not generating Test Work Units.

Just for clarification:
A project starts, say in march and crunches in it's first months only a small amount of WUs, scientific ones, but still kind of testing.
It starts full production mode in August and has 3M credits on 1st of October.
Then the WUs get a bit scarce because the next bunch needs some pre-calculations and to the end of the year they only reach 4.9M.

Will this project be included?
It has far more than 3M credits in the year, all for valid science.
It was only "integrated" (if what I understand is "integration" is this step) in the 4th quarter.
It only has crunched 1.9M credits from "integration" 'til the end of the year.

Why does a project have to have more than 6M credits to be included?
I thought FB should especially promote "smaller projects", this measure does the opposite.

Sorry, in my opinion is the new rules with 3M credits at 1.1., 1.4., 1.7. or 1.10. to much.

In the past, you write:
Each project having the same weight in this trophy, no project is more or less interesting than another

This should also help small or new projects at a time when more and more projects are joining the Boinc platform.
With this new rule the help for small projects is not possible. FB is then only another Credit-stat-site like boincstats or so.

Your demonstration convinced me. I removed the precision "or since it integration if project is added during the year."

CPND Beta should never be included in any stats (including FB). As they add any credits generated there to the regular CPDN accounts. So if you count CPDN Beta and CPDN, then you are double counting.
