Regarding 2024

SEASONS GREETINGS TO ALL !!

Formula BOINC in 2024?
====================
I've not heard from Sebastien for many months and, at the time of writing this, I have NO INFORMATION as to whether Formula BOINC will continue into 2024.

It should be noted that *if* it is going ahead, then Sebastien needs to re-code the FB website to allow Sprints to be included as well as the need to reset/restart the Marathon stats as from 1st January. And for now, I have not seen anything obvious on the site that implies that FB will continue.

However, I am naturally an optimist so I will keep my fingers crossed !

regards
Tim

Hi Tim

This is honestly a very good question.

Sebastien was clearly not able to repair SAM and at some point he was hoping to do it "by the end of November" and we also had information that he was too busy with his professional / personal life.

Maybe the changes on the FB website are "not very big" to turn into 2024 and he will be able to do it ?

So I don't know... let's hope ! :)

Hi Everyone,

that message from Seb on top of the webpage makes me worrying... :?
Should we decide some alternatives for the future of this competition?

Hi all

I've just seen the FB website and it says:
Given the limited time I can devote to this site, there will be no Formula BOINC race in 2024.
I warmly thank Timbo for animating this competition in 2023.
So, with just 2 days notice, it looks like FB 2024 will NOT happen...which is a shame as it could have been easily re-coded and with minimal work from Sebastien - AND WHO DID NOT GIVE ME ANY ADVANCE WARNING OF THIS.

I would hope Sebastien can give me the admin rights to re-code the website and it can continue, but for now we must wait and see.

regards and Happy New Year to all members and visitors.
Tim

Hi

I am very sad that Sebastien has made this decision, but I am not that surprised. And sadly he has not offered me the opportunity to take over the website administration and then I can get it updated to allow 2024 to take place.

Tim

Hi

As I have already mentioned, if Sebastien is happy to give me admin control of the FB website then it can continue. But if he declines then maybe any interested parties can instead get involved with any of the other Challenges that take place during the year, including BOINC Games?

Tim

Hi everyone,

it is not natural for me as Ukrainian to surrender 8-) What else can we do?

I have the idea of similar project.
I've got the access to some hardware.
I have a place with a cheap electricity and relatively fast internet.
I think I'm able to build and host the new server and even assign a person for physical attendance.
All that for free.

Most important that we could need: website coding, server OS administration, website administration.
And what could we salvage from here? Or should we start complitely from scratch?

If we are able to create another competition, why shouldn't we try?

I just saw this here, and also that we got yesterday evening a message from Sebastien:
Non, il n'y aura pas de FB en 2024.
D'une part, je n'arriverai pas à dégager suffisamment de temps pour m'en occuper correctement.
D'autre part, le serveur a régulièrement été attaqué lors des sprints. Certaines attaques ont entraînées des plantages du serveur. Pour protéger les autres services hébergés sur ce serveur, je préfère arrêter le FB.
No, there will be no FB in 2024.
For one thing, I won't be able to free up enough time to look after it properly.
Secondly, the server was regularly attacked during the sprints. Some attacks led to server crashes. To protect the other services hosted on this server, I prefer to stop FB.

Hi

Thanks for the info - it is a shame Sebastien has not provided this information on THIS forum.

Maybe you can ask him if he will allow *me* to provide the server and administration and to transfer the domain name to my control and then it can continue but without his involvement.

I ask this as I have sent him a private message via this forum and he has not replied to me !

Tim
