And me, three Windows computers not playing nicely with Gerasim two of them got a fresh install of Windows and Boinc. Downloads master file then ...

18/04/2024 11:29:18 | Gerasim@home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
18/04/2024 11:29:18 | Gerasim@home | Requesting new tasks for CPU and AMD/ATI GPU
18/04/2024 11:29:19 | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
18/04/2024 11:29:19 | Gerasim@home | Scheduler request to https://gerasim.boinc.ru/sched/gsm.sched failed: Failure when receiving data from the peer
18/04/2024 11:29:21 | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

I have another issue whereby boinc can't tell the difference between the three computers and gets the host names mixed up, all other projects settle down and sort it out (giving them a new ID and aborting the first batch of work) but Gerasim continued the battle which is why I tried re-installed boinc.

Did you solve that issue ? I think other AF members had the same problem.

On my two small linux host all seems fine.

Its been passed on to SerVal at Gerasim, but of course without a forum they aren't going to see the quantity of people having a problem so anyone that has this problem I suggest you email Serval https://gerasim.boinc.ru/users/Contacts.aspx so he knows its not just random problems with a small number of people.

One idea which I haven't tested is to use an older version of Boinc, it is suspected it is only Windows v7.24 onwards that has a problem but it might be more widespread.

Hiya

As I already reported, I have 2 hosts currently active on Gerasim and both use Windows BOINC Manager 7.24.1 (x64) and both CPU and GPU tasks are being completed without ANY issues.

So, it might not just be the version of BOINC Manager, but also another conflict with the Gerasim project as well? That is what I hope SerVal will investigate ASAP !

Tim

It appears to start happening when you add Gerasim to your boinc-client.

Hi

OK, so it is years since I added Gerasim to my BOINC Manager, and in the meantime I have upgraded BOINC Manager a few times and so far (touch wood) all has gone well with various projects, EXCEPT for SPT, which, when I added it to one host, it causes the PC to lock-up.

And I cannot remember if another dependency was required to be installed by Gerasim, as some other projects required specific versions of MS Visual Studio runtime to be installed before these projects would actually run correctly..

The lack of an active "support section" messageboard (for Gerasim) might help resolve this - the original message board ran on a separate website, but it is no longer linked to, on the project website :-(.

UPDATE:

But I just found this you could try (if you speak/understand Russian):

https://boinc.ru/forum/forum/gerasimhome/

Note: It is slow to respond, so give it a few minutes to load each page !

Tim

There are 3 people on the contact page you mention above, why not write to the 3 ? (for those having the issue)

The forum you found Tim seems to be alive, if you use automatic translation of the page (you have that in firefox, chrome, etc) you can see there were messages 3 days ago, and in the past weeks or months for the other topics.

This forum is interesting, the section where you found this is called "Russian BOINC projects". But yeah most project mentioned there are dead or zombies...

Hi

Before the Sprint, I emailed the 3 Gerasim admins (as found on their contacts page) and NO ONE replied. This has happened before as well :-(

In fact the listed email address for Eric Driver BOUNCED BACK. But he is also an admin for NumberFields, so I dropped him a PM on the NF project website about the Sprint - and he replied. I also advised him about the forthcoming Sprint and about the issue that Yeti was having, and that the email address listed was giving an error. He has now changed the email address. :-)

So, I would think that Eric would be the person to contact, as he seems more responsive.

I get the feeling that Gerasim's Russian admins are just ticking things over and perhaps, they have less interest in the project these days?
