The letsencrypt certificate for asteroids expired March 8th so partly coincidental, presumably the autorenew has failed due to the server being so slow.

Asteroids website and stats export is working much better, lets hope the stats continue to update ok now. Congrats to their admin team!

I can't get any new work and several machines are now idle. I'm moving on to other projects and will skip the remainder of this Sprint. Good luck everyone.

It's seem to be working now but it's clear a good number of people were out of work (not having enough stock, or no having "force downloaded" above normal) for a serious number of hours because of that, so situation is certainly not balanced between all.

Any thoughts about this Tim ?

I'm sure the problems didn't have any geographical bias, so it was the same for everybody surely?

There are SSL problems again at the moment so the admins are probably performing more maintenance. The number of tasks ready to send doubled at some point today whereas the tasks in progress dropped 30%.

It is frustrating but everybody is in the same boat. We've had similar problems with a number of sprints, it is a normal part of the sprint obstacle course.

For almost all of the 3 day sprints I now download up to 2 days of work during the first few hours, then roughly reduce my buffering limit to half of the remaining time every now and then. This is a compromise that doesn't leave loads of unfinished tasks at the end of the sprint while giving me plenty of leeway if a project server has problems. Its also being fair to other competitors for projects with 2-task validations.

If competitors don't buffer much then that is their choice of strategy. You have to accept the consequences of your own strategy.

Unfortunately, there are some of us that can't get 2 days worth of work due to the number of threads per machine, the WU runtime, and the 1000 WU BOINC client limit. It is even worse with A@H because they have a 400 WU limit. 400 WUs on a 128 thread machine don't last that long. I guess each contributor has to decide whether it is worth battling all the obstacles.

True! But again that is your chosen strategy which is highly beneficial in many instances but less so in other circumstances. However, I can't understand their rational for a 400 limit, especially as they have a reasonably long deadline.

The 1000 limit is client side and not entirely a hard limit, there are ways round it but I don't know what most server limits are set to, I've been above 1200 on some projects occasionally (by fluke, not by design).

Hi

Last night, I saw that the FB website was at last showing more recent stats updates - however, I was at a concert in a town about 2 hours drive away and I was checking the stats remotely on my mobile...so, I was happy to see that the Asteroids website might be working normally again.

And today, it seems that the project website is working and is responsive and not giving SSL errors.

Just a shame that the Asteroids admin has not emailed me back with any clues as to what happened.
