I have the impression that there is a convergence on the need to clean up the teams that are now in the FB or any new entrants to keep only teams that actually want to participate.

One suggestion could be to contact the "captains" of the teams to validate their registration for FB2022.

Afterwards, depending on the number of teams, we will perhaps see more clearly.

Thanks for your ideas.
I submit some changes for 2022:
  • Only teams registered could participate to FB. A dedicated page will be created.
    Only team founders could register their teams.
    From January to March, there could be only one league. At the end of March, after 3 months of marathon and 2 sprints, 2 or more leagues could be created.
  • There could be 3 rankings:
    • marathon
    • sprint
    • general (marathon + sprint)
  • The sprint project could be announced at the start
  • For sprints, points could be granted each day. Sprint points could be the average of points earned each days. For example
    • Team A
      • 1st day : Ranking #5 =>10 points
      • 2nd day : Ranking #5 => 10 points
      • 3rd day : Ranking #1 => 25 points
      • Sprint points : (10 + 10 +25)/3 => 15 points
    • Team B
      • 1st day : Ranking #1 => 25 points
      • 2nd day : Ranking #1 => 25 points
      • 3rd day : Ranking #2 => 18 points
      • Sprint points : (25+25+18)/3 => 23 points

Interesting. Are we ready for decimal places on the league tables?

Hi Sebastien

Thanks for making public your proposals for the 2022 season.

Might I make some comments:

1) Some teams have different "founders" for different projects - so you might need to take into account that for some teams, they might have multiple founders, depending on which project you are looking at.

2) Registering "teams" is a great idea...but this could still allow some teams to register, who have many members who know nothing about Formula BOINC. So, I think it would be good for individuals to register too.

3) Having split team rewards at different times, would certainly help limit any bunkering, and also good to see that the chosen project would be announced at the exact start time of each Sprint.

4) I think it would still be a good idea for individuals to be awarded points, based on a league table for "individuals" in each Sprint (and using same points as teams so 25 pts for 1st place, etc). So, over the year, everyone can see (and applaud) the "top" individuals who have contributed the most.

5) It might also be good to ask each project (again) to ensure that they want their project to be involved in the Marathon and maybe the Sprints?

regards
Tim

I don't understand How Daily Scores would change things. If you can Win with a drop towards the last day. You should still be able to Win with smaller daily drops. :?
Also this in no way stops one from guessing what the next "Sprint" might be ahead of time. 8-)

Hiya

I think the idea of daily scores will be to help stop tasks being uploaded on the final day. This is actually an issue for some smaller projects, if many tasks are uploaded in a short period of time and which can overload low specification servers.

The last minute "upload" scenario can also prevent "wingmen" from being awarded their credits, if one (or more) hosts upload many tens (or hundreds or even thousands) of tasks near to or after the end of a Sprint...thereby limiting the credits that could be awarded to other teams for their already uploaded but unvalidated tasks.

So, rewarding teams for evenly uploading tasks and spreading out the credits over a few days could lead to a more even contest....though of course some Teams could choose to limit uploads on some days and then pick ONE specific day to upload 2-3 days worth, so they gain most FB points on that day.

re: Sprint Project selection
The change that was made for this season, was that ANY project could be chosen (from the shortlist shown on the website) for ANY Sprint...and just because it had been chosen already did NOT exclude it from being chosen again. So for each Sprint, any one of the 20+ projects could be chosen.

That will make it very difficult to guess which project will be selected, assuming Sebastien keeps this change in 2022.

Tim

Nice ideas Sebastien +1 for me

I prefer if only team leaders have to register

Under what conditions can a team register?
If there is only one group and more than 15-20 registered teams it may be difficult for a small team to score 1 point.

I agree Cougarpelardou, the first 3 months will be extremely hard on small teams - the very teams that the changes purport to be helping.

Really nice changes on the Sprint pages Sebastein. Thanks. Loving the stats for last hour, last 3 hours etc. It would be great on Marathon too please ... last day, last 3 days etc

Hiya

I think the proposal is to have ONE league for the first few months...with all teams together. This won't affect teams too much as the FB points earned are based on their Marathon credits, which vary all the time, so FB points are variable for this period.

After this time, divide this league and leave high credit scoring teams in this League (now called League 1), and move medium to low credit scoring teams into League 2. Later on, League 2 could be split into medium scoring teams and move very low or zero credit scoring teams into League 3.

If anything this is a good thing for smaller teams, as once the League is divided a medium scoring team that earned NO Marathon points as it was (say) in 11th place in League 1, might then be the #1 team in League 2 and would then have 25 points.

Tim

Hi Tim,

1) It's not a problem. To register their teams, founders should post their account key. With this account key, I will check which team should have to be registered.

2) In the next days, I will publish dedicated page to team registration. I will need help to make advertising. For this year, I will limit registration to teams

3) I hope this change will limit bunkering. Some small projects could perhaps chosen for sprints.

4) Getting individuals statistics each hours could overload projects servers. I'm not sure it will be possible for each sprint

5) It's a great idea but I will not have any time to contact each project administrator. I will accept help for this task.

Sebastien.
