Hi

Yes, granted it was a bit risky but they have fixed techy issues over the last few months and when I checked (over the last few days) there were many tasks available, so it felt to me that they were worth a punt.

Plus given it is summer, and many FB members might be away on holiday, so I assumed that fewer FB members would take part and hence put less strain on their servers.

And a few hours into the Sprint, credits are being earned and this can only help the sub-projects that have available tasks, such as MCM.

So, we shall see how it goes, but I have a good feeling that for this Sprint, this project at least offers an alternative option to the regular projects and so there could be a wider range of individuals wanting to get involved, given that there is a real need for all crunched WCG data to benefit humanity in general.

Tim

Everything goes well so far. Mostly )
Some issues are still possible for new users since WCG website unable to login anyone once again. Last time this was fixed only in two weeks.
New crunching hosts also are limited to a bunker size due to a 'trust' algorythm by WCG, I suppose.

Anyway, shouldn't this be a challenge for us too? I'm still having fun and it's definitely a sign of success to me.

Hiya

Overall, I do not think there can be any complaints - tasks were available, credits were awarded and FB Teams and Members go involved and "did their bit" to assist the project.

But it is a shame that the WCG admins do not answer emails or messages.

Hi everybody,

that was a tight battle and I've enjoyed every day of it. One of the best sprints so far!

Tim, you can try to get in touch with TigerLily on WCG Forums. That's a spokesperson for a whole team, so it would be nice to arrange some communication for the future. Emails are known to be working not so good for this project.

See you after a summer break!

Hi all

It is nearly time for the FB Sprints to recommence !

I have attempted to make contact with the Project Admin at the randomly selected project for Sprint #15.

I await confirmation that their server will be able to cope with the expected high number of task downloads once the Sprint starts.

regards
Tim

Hi all

It seems that there was an issue with the selected Sprint project, The Ramanujan Project between about 3pm (UTC) on Saturday and this morning around 8am (UTC).

The result of this was that few tasks were available. So, if you had downloaded a few extra tasks into your bunker then this may not have affected you...but for others they may not have been able to obtain more.

I found out about this late last night and I emailed the project admins, in case they did not know about this, as this project usually has at least 100,000 tasks available all the time.

And thankfully, soon after 8am (UTC) this morning the project had replenished their server with 100,000+ more tasks. Hopefully, this did not affect too many FB Teams or Members with their crunching !

regards
Tim

It has affected some hosts due to a somewhat ridiculous behaviour of BOINC client. It thinks that there's no need to update a project if tasks are not available for some time. But hopefully it will not affect final standings

As I have told on the project forum, we should consider this as a racing event. Red flag, perhaps, suits better to this kind of an issue. We are all on the same track, isn't it?

Hi all

The Project admin for Sprint #16 has been in touch and it is all "systems GO" as far as the availability of tasks for the end of this week. 8-)
